FROM THE RECTOR'S DESK
This morning as I drove from Jan’s house in Fairwinds down to the church, I was treated to a stunning view of snow-capped Mount Arrowsmith bathed in sunlight, backed by blue sky. Could a person have a better goodbye gift?
Well, yes! The gracious and loving words I’ve received these past weeks will nourish and hold me well into the future. You have all gifted me in ways you will never know. My heart is full!
And when I went to lock the car today, I discovered the battery in my key fob has died. I will need a new one. The irony wasn’t lost on me. You may remember in my sermon on Sunday I mentioned the problems I faced the week before coming to St. Mary’s – my computer developed issues, I had car trouble, and my beloved flip phone fell and smashed?
Well, it seems that times of transition are filled with all sorts of challenges (and opportunities!) I just have to trust and move forward one step at a time.
This poem by the Irish poet, priest and author of many spiritual works, John O’Donohue, speaks beautifully to this liminal time in which we find ourselves. It leads us from fear and despair into anticipation and trust in God’s plans; trust that God’s will is for our health and wholeness, always.
To Bless the Space Between Us
In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life’s desire.Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
Knowing Rev. Alan Naylor is here to lead the parish through the interim period until you find a new priest makes it easier to leave. You are in good hands!
Dear friends, with love and gratitude for all you have been to me. I carry you with me in my heart.
God bless you,
Selinde
