Saturday, January 19th 10:00am – 2:00pm Workshop for parishioners who do Prayers of the People, and, those who are Readers; for experienced and new people alike. Here at St. Mary’s. Presented by the clergy from St. Mary’s, St. Philip’s, Lantzville and St. Paul’s Nanaimo. Lunch included. Free, but please register with KAT in the front office by the 15th so we know how many people to prepare for. Selinde would like everyone involved in these ministries to attend. If you are not able to, please arrange with someone to learn about the workshop and get the handouts after the event.
Sunday, January 20th – 3rd Sunday – John Newell, Deputy Fire Chief will speak on how to prepare for, and respond to, an emergency situation in the community. Join us as we celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with our brothers and sisters in faith across Christian denominations with a service of thanksgiving and remembrance.
Sunday, January 20th – 1:30 – 2:30 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service at St. Peter Catholic Church, Nanaimo. This ecumenical service will be led by Gary Gordon, bishop of the Archdiocese of Victoria, Greg Mohr, bishop of the British Columbia Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada will preach and our own bishop, Logan McMenamie will attend.
Monday, January 21st, 4:00 – 6:00 - Community Dinner. Yummy Pot Roast & real mashed potatoes FEAST. Please sign up in the Hall on Sunday if you can volunteer that day.
Wednesday, January 23rd, 12:30 Parish Council in the library
Fri/Sat- January 25-26th Moving Forward - a reconciliation event between First Nations and settler peoples of Vancouver Island offered by Hope Lutheran Church in Nanaimo. The KAIROS Blanket Exercise on Friday evening is well worth attending if that’s all you’re free to attend. For more information, see poster on bulletin board in the hall or pick up a brochure.
Saturday, January 26 from 10am - 2pm TUMAINI BOTTLE DRIVE. Save your bottles! Or bring them with you to church this Sunday. There is a container for them in the main entrance to the Hall. If you can help out on the day, please let Val know. Thank you!
Wednesday, February 13th 5:00 – 7:00pm – Parish Social at Mary’s. A chance to enjoy tasty nibblies and the opportunity to get to know the other folks in the parish better!
Our AVM is fast approaching – Sunday, February 17th after the 10am service. We have 4 positions to fill on Parish Council. If you are interested in learning more about serving in this capacity, please talk to Clair Davies, Elaine Cowan or Jean Russell.
February 20th afternoon – What Gives you Joy? A workshop with our very own Mary Holte to help you discover how you would like to serve and grow in ministry. Save the date! More info to follow.
Friday, March 1st, 2-4pm – World Day of Prayer – here at St. Mary’s this year! Save the date and stay tuned.
Saturday, March 2nd evening – The St. Mary’s Spaghetti Cabaret – an evening of fun and food. Again, save the date and more info to come. Does anyone in the parish have their “Serve it Right”? Please let Jean Russell know. We need someone licenced to serve alcohol who would be willing to at the Spaghetti Cabaret.
