This Sunday is a special day, not only is it our combined service where we will be worshiping as an Oceanside community together – but it also marks the first Sunday of our Season of Creation! During the coming weeks you will notice themes which hover around seeking justice and peace for all of the created world. We will see these themes emerge in our liturgy, our prayers, our songs and perhaps even in some of the sermons you will hear during the coming weeks.
And while this is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the beauty and wonder of creation in our particular part of the world and our place within it.. this also means that Sundays will feel a little different for a while. We will be using liturgy for the Islands and Inlets with words that invite us into this particular place of forests and coastlands. Our creed will change back to one that is spoken, but will be different from the usual words. Instead of the familiar Apostles Creed we will be praying the words of “Tirechan’s Creed”. These words written sometime around 670 AD by an Irish Bishop evoke feelings of connectedness between humanity, creation and the Divine that dances all around us. And of course our music will have themes of creation strung throughout and our prayers will remind us that we are all part of God’s creation woven together by the same God who created the universe and all that lies therein.
The Season of Creation is a special time in our liturgical year and I pray that God will speak to you all as we move through this time in community.
