From the Rector's Desk

Well my friends, it seems that summer has officially arrived on the Island!  These last few days have seen temperatures exceeding the normal ranges, and have left many folks heading to local waters for a cooling dip in the ocean. This is the time of year where our routines change – folks go on vacations, we see more people travelling around the Island, and life slows down a little as in some cases it’s just too hot to do much of anything!  Just mention the word ‘summer’ – and most of us begin to imagine the beach, cool drinks and a break from everyday life.

This is all well and good, because it is important for us to take a break from time to time.  It can be rejuvenating to slow down, to create space for rest and relaxation but all too often some of us see the break from normal routines, as a break from the church and our spiritual lives too.  I think it becomes easy to say, “Well I’m on vacation” and forget that God is with us even when we are on holidays. The church is here all summer long, and so is our God who loves and guides us – so I would encourage you even when you are taking things slow and enjoying the more laid back nature of summer months, keep seeking God moments in your lives, keep listening for God speaking into your heart and showing you the Holy in the world.

No matter where we are, or what we are doing, may our hearts be warmed with an awareness of God with us.

KITCHEN HOUSEKEEPING

When on 'kitchen duty', please be careful about stacking dishes in the cupboards, especially the lower ones.  One of our rental groups recently opened the lower cupboard containing serving dishes and a few came tumbling out and broke. The dish stacks were unbalanced, with smaller dishes on the bottom and larger, irregularly shaped dishes atop them.  Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.

OFFICE SUMMER HOURS

The church office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9-1pm.  Kirsten and KAT will be working remotely until 4 pm and as well as responding to emails and phone messages.

GOOD NEWS!

As we all know, KAT will soon be winging her way to England for an extended vacation with family, and we have been looking for someone to fill a part-time relief position in the office while she is away.  At the direction of Council, the Wardens and I created a job description and we have been able to find someone.  Elizabeth Razzo has been a member of our Diocese her whole life, and currently works part-time as the Administrator at St. Philip Cedar. Elizabeth will be do a day of training with KAT on Tuesday August 6th, officially start Monday August 12th and be with us until Tuesday October 8th. During her time with us, the office hours will change – so stay tuned as we sort out those details!!  In the meantime, mark your calendars as Elizabeth will be worshipping with us on Sunday, July 28th, and this will be an opportunity for everyone to meet her in person before she starts. We can all welcome her to St. Mary’s together!
