St. Mary's Anglican Church is proud to support three international charities. Each Sunday the Birthday Box is passed around the congregation for donations for Precious Jewels and Tumaini.  The proceeds of this collection are divided equally between the two charities and go to support orphans under their care.

Precious Jewels is a charity helping the children of the Philippines, Uganda, and the region of East Africa. Some of these children are AIDS orphans, some are in need of medical help, and some are orphans needing housing, loving care and attention.  Please check out the contact information below for access to the Precious Jewels website, and find out how to donate or to volunteer.

TUMAINI FUND CANADA

(Canadian registered charity #84352 7938 RR0001)

The Tumaini Fund was founded in 2003 by Dr. Susan Wilson, MBE, to bring assistance to the AIDS orphans and desperately poor families in Kagera, Tanzania. Tumaini is supported by the Anglican Church of Tanzania (ACT), specifically the Dioceses of Kagera and Lweru.

In 2014, a 40-foot container of clothing, medical equipment, tools, and school supplies was sent to Kagera. In the fall of 2016, a 500-pound pallet of clothing made by the crafters was shipped to Kagera.  On arrival in Kagera, these containers are highly valued as storage and workshop space.  Girls’ personal care kits, which are continually being made here by crafters, have been sent overseas by the suitcase-full and as of June 2018 the tally of kits sent was 712.

Tumaini Crafters: In 2010, a group of volunteers began meeting at St. Mary's to knit, sew, and craft blankets, sweaters, dresses, shirts, personal care kits for girls and other urgently needed items.

Volunteers Needed!  Monthly work-bees are held at St. Mary's church hall on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.  No experience is needed to cut, pack, iron...  All welcome! (Currently on hold)

TFC's fundraising events include an annual Strawberry Tea, white elephant sales, and bottle drives.

Child Sponsorship: A donation of $100 per year enables Tumaini to support an AIDS orphan with housing, food, clothing, school uniform, school supplies and a mosquito net.
