Note from the Rector
Just before our last Parish Council meeting an opportunity came knocking on our doors, that while causing great change, could also bring a great deal of new life to our community. I took this opportunity to the meeting and the Council agreed to explore what this might mean for St. Mary's if we were to pursue this new partnership creating space for a small daycare center to operate within our buildings.
Since this time I have met multiple times with the owner of the daycare center to create a proposal of what the daycare would need from us. The Wardens and I then discussed at length the proposal including; what space they would need, how it would impact both St. Mary's community and our user groups, how we can learn to share the space together and what sort of partnerships we could have with the children and the families if we were to proceed.
I fully admit this would mean some changes to the layout of the spaces we currently have, particularly the den/library space, but would not impact our day-to-day operations in any significant way. This endeavor also carries with it the potential to add an additional income to our budget as a steady source of income for the parish going forward. We also believe that this partnership could bring an element of new life into our midst that we have not seen at St. Mary's in many years. The families in attendance are all local to the Lantzville and Nanoose Bay areas, potentially making this the beginning of a beautiful relationship, not only with the children and the staff, but also with the families as well.
Please note, that while these conversations have been happening, nothing has been agreed on at this time. Parish Council members have been given the proposal from the Thinking Garden Early Childhood Center to review, and we will have time to discuss this at our next Council meeting. The hope is that at the end of our discussions we will be able to vote on a final decision on the matter. Our next meeting is Wednesday June 28th at 1pm in the Parish hall and I encourage you to attend should you have any questions or concerns as ALL are welcome to attend the Council meetings.
This is truly a big change, but could be a real opportunity for us at St. Mary's to extend the gifts that God has given us as a community with those outside our walls, reaching out and welcoming in, bringing new life and new purpose to our church family.
Please hold the Parish Council and the folks at the Thinking Garden Early Childhood Center in your prayers as we move through this time of discernment together.
Deep Peace,
Kirsten +
